Miller Mobley is a portrait and advertising photographer known for his stunning images of celebrities, newsmakers, athletes, and musicians. He has photographed some of the best-known names in show business, from Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, and Natalie Portman to Ryan Gosling, Tom Hanks, and Michael Keaton. Recently, he has been called upon to capture A-listers in motion as well: As part of its online coverage of the 2017 SAG Awards, CNN commissioned Miller to shoot moving portraits of the nominees, including Sarah Paulson, Jeff Bridges, Jim Parsons, and Taraji P. Henson.
A go-to photographer in the music industry, Miller has also shot recording artists in all genres, including Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Iggy Pop. In February 2017, he garnered a great deal of press for his cover shoot with Camila Cabello, which he shot, at Billboard’s request, using an iPhone 7. On the advertising front, Miller has been commissioned by Steinway & Sons, Apple iBooks, TV Land, Syfy, CNN, and National Geographic Channel, among others.
“There’s only so much you can control in the type of photography I do. It’s in my nature to have a strategy when there’s pressure on the line and not a lot of time.,” says Miller. “I go into every photo shoot with a plan, but I also let the ‘happy accidents’ happen.”
With his celebrity shoots, he is also especially keen to make sure his subjects—and their publicists—have a positive experience. Being kind and easy to work with is central to his code of ethics. “It sounds obvious,” he says, “but it goes a long way.”
Miller is based in New York City and Los Angeles.
